The Northern Flicker is a beautiful bird and I love catching them in the right light. The light found this Northern Flicker perfectly as it was nestled in the tree. When he took off the light caught the beautiful yellow of the wings.

What a gift I received on Nation Bird Day. I was a bit bummed this winter break that I wasn't able to get images of my beloved bald eagles due to the warmer winter. Check out this scruffy looking Red-headed Woodpecker. It has been awhile since I hiked Merwin Nature Preserve, but Julie took me there for my birthday. I was relieved to see that the red-headed woodpeckers were still there in numbers.
