Juvenile Bull Moose

Juvenile Bull MooseJuvenile Bull MooseNothing gets the blood pumping more than coming across a couple of moose around the corner on the trail you are hiking. We were on the trail winding around the lake when we heard about a couple of moose that were out in the water. I was hoping to get a photo of them swimming, but before we got to them, they were already out of the water and on the same trail we were hiking.
A couple of hikers came walking very quickly toward us, saying the moose were around the corner. I looked around the corner and saw this juvenile bull moose walking straight toward me. It was so close that I only managed to get this one image, and it filled the frame. What you don’t see in this image is a much larger adult moose just off the trail.
We immediately went the other direction. Thankfully, both the adult and juvenile decided to leave the trail and head up the mountain. It was our only moose encounter, and I still wish I would have been able to see them swimming. Something to look forward to on my next trip to Glacier National Park.
