I took the 400mm f/5.6 out for a nature drive locally before I need to return it. I came across several deer. As I scanned the herd, I was looking for a scene that drew my attention. Here is a Bald Eagle just hovering with L&D14 in the background. It was starting to flurry here and you can faintly see some of the flakes against the darker background. I wish it was coming down a little harder as it would have added to the motion of this image.

I like the angle of this image viewing the side profile of the Eagle with his catch. You can see right up under the wing and the sharpness is set on the eagle's eye. He just pulled this small fish from the water as you can see the water drops still in the air from the splash.

In the next few weeks, I will be adding more images of the amazing bald eagles from the Mississippi River, specifically Lock and Dam 14. For this trip (Jan. 20th, 2013), I rented a 400mm f/5.6L canon lens. It has twice the reach of my current lens. When you go there, you see many photographers using 400mm lenses and up...in fact, many have 500, 600...
