The Shadows of Eagle's WingsOne of the many challenges of photographing bald eagles, is trying to manage the light. You don't want the white feathers getting totally washed out nor do you want the wings too dark losing detail. I dial in my camera settings and get it to where I can make a well-exposed image. If the wind, sun, and eagle cooperate, it flies toward the sun providing a perfect layer of light accentuating those beautiful head feathers adding a nice catch-light in the eye. However, that doesn't always happen...sometimes the bird turns into the shade or shades its head with its massive wings....ahhhh! That is okay, nature demands flexibility. Sometimes it works in my favor, as I love this image of the eagle peering out from the shadows of its own wings.
