The water levels at Dawson Lake were already very low so when the ice and snow storm hit, it created this beautiful scene of the creek winding through the snow. There was a haze hanging in the air creating a beautiful atmosphere. The beautiful ice-covered trees speak for themselves.

The Pileated Woodpecker is ABA's 2021 Bird of the Year. It just so happens I spotted my second ever pileated woodpecker this week at Moraine View State Park. I heard it working on a tree and then I heard the call. After I spotted the first, I spotted a second flying a little further in among the trees. Not a bad way to start January, seeing 2 pilea...

The sense of peace that comes over me when I find spots like this to think about my composition and camera settings while in nature is what photography is all about. These moments of clarity and thoughtfulness allow me to be creative and tune out all of the distractions of the world. My wish is for everyone to be able to find this kind of peace....
