It has been cold for so long this fall and winter that scenes like this seem like a long, distant memory. I'm not complaining...I enjoy my seasons and winter brings some great photography opportunities such as my beloved bald eagles, but I will admit that I will be ready for spring and summer to return after this early start to winter.

Pair of Red-headed Woodpeckers

I went on a hike through Merwin Nature Preserve today, which is my go to spot for red-headed woodpeckers, and it did not disappoint. One look into the dense cover and you could spot the unmistakable flashes of white wings that these beautiful birds display. There were several flying form tree to tree. Foraging for Winter

Here is what many of my favorite winged creatures are doing right now...preparing for winter. This was one of several tufted titmice flipping through the leaves and finding food to stock up on. There were at least 10 of the flying to the ground and back to the trees...very busy birds.
