Fishing Juvenile Bald EagleI took my first trip back to the Mississippi River this winter today to scout things out and I was just dieing to get back to see these magnificent eagles. I arrived this morning around 9:45 and there were several eagles in the trees and some fishing further out in the river where I couldn't reach with my lens. I would say there were about 20-30 or so eagles at that time. It was fun seeing them so active even if I wasn't getting many images. I stuck around through a pretty slow afternoon and I was rewarded with this one and only up-close and fishing bird. This juvenile was in the tree later in the day (around 3:00ish) and spotted a gull struggling with a fish that was too big for it to handle. The juvi decided to help him out by swooping in and taking that fish out of the river for him. :) You just never know what is going to happen on the Mississippi. I do have several good practice images of the gulls fishing that I will be posting over time. For now, I wanted to share this image of my first fishing bald eagle of the 2014/2015 season.
