While on my short hike around Ewing Park I was rewarded with this Eastern Screech-Owl giving me the look that only an Eastern Screech-Owl can give...eerie! I have always liked the look of these slick-looking songbirds. They are fun to watch hovering through the prairie grass picking off insects. This guy perched in a couple of spots giving me good looks with smooth backdrops.

I enjoyed an afternoon hike today at Schroeder Nature Sanctuary. A day when most of my hiking spots are populated with it being Saturday and beautiful out, I thought Schroeder would be nice and quiet...and it was. A Skipping Lesser Yellow Leg

I'm not the best at identifying some of these shore birds but I'm pretty positive this is a lesser yellowleg. I love the way he was skipping along in the mud where he was looking for a snack. I also like the reflection. I know the mud isn't the prettiest of settings but that is where these birds are happiest.
