I just love the light at sunrise. Notice how it illuminates the front of this pelican and even catches within the right wing lighting it up. The image makes for a pretty black and white, but I just can't pull myself to leave it black and white with the gorgeous warm light.

Many times I hear these red-winged blackbirds moving and calling from within the reeds and cattails. These are beautiful ducks, especially in flight. I had the opportunity to make a quick visit to Emiquon National Wildlife Refuge this afternoon before heading back home. Pelicans at Daybreak

A couple of pelicans taking off first thing in the morning. This was from a couple of wees ago while they were still here in Bloomington during their migration. They are large birds that create quite a large splash when they take off and land. From this image you can imagine the sounds they generate with their wings and the water splashing.
