Funks Grove Tap1 Maple Syrup Anyone?

Today, I went to Funks Grove to photograph the maple forest as it is being tapped for syrup this time of year.  It was a beautiful day...about 40 degrees and sunny.  It has been a difficult week with work meetings, seasonal sinus issues, and worry for a grandmother who is ill, so getting out and enjoying some nature was much needed.  My goals today was to work on trying to tell a story or at least give the viewer a feel for what it was like to walk among this forest today.  It is quite a remarkable to see tree after tree with anywhere between 1-3 buckets hanging from it throughout the forest.  Check out this website which explains the process and sells the syrup.  Also make sure you check out the Sugar Grove Nature Center site if you every want to attend some events at Funks Grove...it is a great place to bring your family for some fresh air. For these images, I used my Canon 24-70 f/2.8 lens as it allowed me to go wide and show the whole forest when I needed to or zoom in nice and tight on tap or bucket as in the image above.  One of the coolest things was just sitting back, not taking any photos, and listening as the syrup dropped into the bucket...you could hear the ping from multiple trees; simply amazing!
