John Hopkins Glacier was one of the glaciers in Glacier Bay National Park, and it quickly became one of my favorites. The deep blacks and brilliant blues woven through the ice gave it an almost mystical, marbled appearance, as if the glacier had been painted by nature itself. Look closely at the yacht in the lower-left-hand corner. Against the immense scale of the glacier, it looks almost impossibly tiny. It’s a humbling reminder of just how massive these ancient walls of ice really are.
