These birds can spot a fish and spin and dive within seconds. It is an amazing thing to observe and a difficult thing to photograph. You need to make sure you are anticipating the action, which requires studying and predicting their behavior. You also better have the shutter speed set and ready to focus. What a fun and memorable time I had at Lock and Dam 14 while with my wife, kids, and parents. We all took in the beauty of these amazing birds while they fished on the river. We, of course, took as many photos as possible and I plan to go back with a longer lens soon.

A cardinal in the winter is probably one of the most beautiful sights. Their red seems to stand out among the winter wonderland. God made such beautiful creatures and the cardinal has to rate right up there with some of the most beautiful birds he created.

There is just something I love about seeing evergreens covered in snow. I would miss this if I ever moved away from the Midwest. I know palm trees are pretty awesome, but I like my seasons in Illinois.
