Great Horned Owl at Dusk

Great Horned Owl at Dusk

In my pursuit to get the best nature images possible, I sometimes get hung-up on the technical aspects of an image. Truly, inn the end, it is about the art. I love the mood and the story of this image. As I was leaving the park in my car, I saw a silhouette in a tree at almost the max range of my lens. I didn't know what it was until I pulled the camera to my eye and to my delight, I made out the outline of this Great Horned owl. I had a split second to take the image just before this owl flew off. I didn't have time to manually focus, which is what I would have needed to do under these low light conditions. The sun was gone and all that was left was the last bit of twilight of the blue hour. Despite the lack of focus, the lack of light, the grain of the image; I love this image. It is the imperfection that I love and it is the mood and art that I created that I will remember.
