Red Tailed Hawk Attack

Red Tailed Hawk Attack

I spent quite awhile watching this young red tailed hawk at Lake Evergreen this afternoon. I have no idea what he was stalking and I never got a chance to see it in the high brush but I knew he was going to make a move eventually. I actually used the new Eye-AF tracking autofocus on the Canon EOS R and it actually worked perfectly. It tracked this hawk from the tree all the way to the brush and even at the edge of the camera's viewpoint. My previous DSLR could never do this with its limited autofocus points clustered in the middle of the screen. I used the same technique to track a Great Blue Heron later in the day with success. It isn't perfect and loses focus in some situations but the more I practice the more I learn what situations I can use this camera's settings. It makes shooting so much fun.
