Here is one of several images I took of this stunning Red-headed Woodpecker at Indiana Dunes National Park a couple of weeks ago. The light was absolutely perfect, catching the bird in motion and freezing those brilliant flashes of white beneath its wings as it flew. I photographed several more Red-headed Woodpeckers in Missouri just yesterday, and it was so exciting to see so many of these beautiful birds again. There’s something special about watching these flashes of red, black, and white come alive in the wild!
