Low Perspective of an Eagle Fishing

Low Perspective of an Eagle Fishing

This is one of my favorite images from my shoot on Jan. 6th. It was late in the day and the light was getting low (that golden hour time). I decided to move down to the rocky bank to sit on some rocks (ice cold rocks mind you), just a foot above the freezing river. I have done this before with some minimal success as it depends on getting the eagles to fish near that end of the shoreline. This was one of the last fishing sequences of the day that I observed and I was fortunate to get in position just before it happened...in fact it happened so fast, I missed focus on a couple of the images in the series but, thankfully, I was able to get a few good ones. This is one of my favorite poses as the mighty bird leans back into this position to extend the talons as it lunches for the fish. I also love the dramatic light on this eagle illuminating the face of the bird and falling off into shadows towards the back end of the bird. This is a trophy image to add to my collection.
