I love the dramatic silhouette of this Cedar Waxwing set against a brilliant backlit sky. The light was so intense that capturing the bird's details would have required significant overexposure, sacrificing the mood of the scene. Instead, I embraced the shadows and focused on highlighting the Waxwing's elegant, unmistakable profile.
Even in silhouette, a few subtle details remained—just enough to reveal hints of the bird's white accents along its mask, wings, and tail. Those small touches of light add a sense of mystery and depth to the image. I especially enjoyed bringing this photograph to life in post-processing, where I leaned into its artistic qualities and transformed a challenging lighting situation into something a little more dramatic and expressive.
